Discovering Mizithres: An Incredible Day on the Water

There are places in Zakynthos that take your breath away, and Mizithres is one of them. It’s wild, dramatic, and impossibly beautiful. Massive white rock formations rise out of the bluest water you’ve ever seen. It’s the kind of view that makes you stop mid-sentence just to take it all in.

If you’re planning a trip to Zakynthos, visiting Mizithres by boat is something you absolutely don’t want to miss.

Start in Keri, Here’s Why

The best way to reach Mizithres is by water, and the best place to start is Keri. This little harbour village is quiet and charming, and from here, you can head straight into adventure. The coastline between Keri and Mizithres is filled with secret caves, hidden beaches, and unreal swimming spots you’ll never see from land.

You’ve got two great options for exploring by boat:

Captain Your Own Boat

Feeling adventurous? You can rent a small motorboat and be your own captain for the day. You don’t need a license, just a quick tutorial and you’re off. It’s a flexible, relaxed way to explore at your own pace. There's a few options for boats at the shore.

Or Let a Local Captain Guide You (our favourite!)

For something a little more special, book a private speed boat with a local captain. For about €200 per 2 hours, you’ll cruise in comfort and get a guided experience from someone who knows every secret along the way. The captain will guide the boat into caves and you'll marvel at the sheer expert level driving. It's pretty awesome. The best part though, jumping into the bluest of waters exploring patches of sand, or swimming through caves.

They’ll take you to the best coves, and the quietest swim spots. You won’t have to worry about steering, anchoring, or getting lost. You can just sit back and enjoy the view.

The boat can fit up to 8 people comfortably.

Travel Zante Tip: At the base of Keri you'll find a rental hut named Dolphin Boat Rentals. They are the best!

What It’s Like at Mizithres

Once you arrive, it’s hard to believe it’s real. White cliffs and pebble beaches surround you, and the water is so clear and blue that it looks unreal. Whether you swim, snorkel, or just float and relax, it’s a peaceful, untouched corner of the island.

What to Bring

Pack light but smart. Bring water, snacks, towels, and sunscreen. Wear your bathing suit under your clothes and be ready to jump in. This is a day to explore, not just sightsee.

A waterproof phone case is a good idea if you want to take pictures while swimming. There's a small mini-mart at the end of the road leading to the beach, and it's a good idea to pick up a few things before you start your couple of hours on the water.

Final Thoughts

This sits unchallenged at the top of our list of things to do in Zakynthos. There is something special about the experience and the beauty of being on the water. There are plenty of ways to enjoy Zakynthos, but this is something you’ll remember. Starting in Keri and heading toward Mizithres by boat gives you a front-row seat to the island’s raw beauty. It’s peaceful, adventurous, and completely unforgettable.

Find a captain, pack a bag, and go. You’ll be glad you did.
